Another great week in Nursery!
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, Communication, and Language
We continued discussing what it means to be a mensch and talked about the things that can fill or empty our invisible buckets. The children passed a bucket around and shared a time when they did something kind for someone that filled their bucket.
Literacy
We reviewed previously taught sounds and introduced the sound ‘l’. The children discussed objects beginning with ‘l’ and shared items they had brought from home. Please use the reference video to support correct sound pronunciation.
Mathematics
This week in Maths, we revised subitising to 5. The children practised recognising quantities up to 5 and saying how many there were without counting. They are becoming very quick and confident with this skill.
Understanding the World
This week, we continued our topic on Change and Life Cycles. The children welcomed the chicks into our classroom and reviewed the life cycle of a chick, discussing how much they had changed since arriving as eggs. We also explored the life cycle of a frog, from egg and frogspawn to tadpole and adult frog.
The children were fascinated by volcanoes and used a variety of resources to create their own models. We discussed what volcanoes are and learned about lava. They especially enjoyed the Coke and Mentos experiment, which created a volcano-like eruption, and talked about why this happened.

Music
In music this week, we explored copying beats. The children created a beat train and copied the sounds made by the leader. We then read We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, focusing on listening carefully and repeating the verses together.
PE
In PE, Nursery prepared for sports day by practising different sporting events such as Sprint Races, Bean Bag throwing, Hoop jumping and Scooter racing.
Ivrit
This week in Ivrit, we had lots of fun exploring colours (Tzva’im – צבעים)! The children learned and practised a variety of colours, including Adom (red – אדום), Yarok (green – ירוק), Varod (pink – ורוד), Tzahov (yellow – צהוב), Katom (orange – כתום), Kachol (blue – כחול), Shachor (black – שחור), and Hum (brown – חום).
The children enjoyed searching around the classroom for objects that matched each colour and were amazed by a little “magic” experiment, where we mixed different colours together and watched them change!
We also spent time with Efi the Tuki (the parrot), who loves colours just as much as we do, and we played colour-themed games with Podi on the interactive board.
The children created their own magical colour sheets and learned a new song about colours. We encourage you to listen to it together at home using the link below and ask your child to tell you about the colours they remember.

Jewish Studies
This week Nursery class has:
- Explored Parashat Shelach, in which we learned about taking challah. We were very lucky that Mrs Freedman made lots of dough for Nursery and Reception classes, so we were able to make the hafrashat challah brachah together during morning tefillah. We then got to roll and plait our own little challah rolls. Each of the children made a beautiful bejewelled hafrashat challah brachah picture as an aide-mémoire.
- Looked at our Jewish Way of Life curriculum. We focused on the Sefer Torah and learned that the stories within it tell the history of the Jewish people, starting from Avraham and Sarah. We each created a family tree of Avraham and Sarah and saw how their children and grandchildren became a great nation. The family trees looked smashing, and they will soon be displayed in the Nursery classroom! We also looked at a real (mini) Sefer Torah and learned about how a sofer creates each Torah scroll with such care and attention to detail.
- Learned a song to help us remember the names of Yosef’s sons and made a fabulous craft with the words, so that we can sing it with Mummy and Daddy at home.

- Please read the email sent last week regarding Sports Day, which includes your child’s T-shirt colour, the instructions for the day, location details, and timings. Please also confirm by email whether you will be bringing your child back to school after Sports Day.
