Central to our ethos is the belief that emotional wellbeing and academic growth are inseparable. We teach pupils how to recognise and manage their own emotions, how to empathise with others, and how to reach out for support when it is needed. In this way, we help them develop not only as learners, but as compassionate, confident and resilient young people, ready to make a positive contribution to the world.

Across the school, we work together to build a culture of respect, empathy, and community. We want every Kerem pupil to know that they belong, that their voice matters, and that there is always someone to talk to when life feels exciting, confusing, or even hard.

Our strong pastoral system — rooted in relationships, empathy and community — ensures that every child has trusted adults and peers to talk to, regular opportunities to be heard, and the space to grow in confidence and resilience.
Our House System creates connections across year groups, offering opportunities for pupil to take leadership roles, become ‘buddies’ to younger pupils and demonstrate kindness, Tikkun Olam and to become fully engaged, global citizens.
We are also incredibly proud of our dedicated Wellbeing Room which sits in the centre of the school, reflecting our commitment to place emotional wellbeing at the heart of school life.

The Wellbeing Room

At Kerem, we believe children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and emotionally secure. This belief shapes our whole school approach to wellbeing and led to the creation of our dedicated Wellbeing Room, a carefully designed space that places emotional wellbeing at the heart of school life.

The Wellbeing Room is overseen by our experienced Wellbeing Practitioner, Mr Portnoi, who provides a consistent, trusted presence for our children. Working both individually and in small groups, Mr Portnoi supports pupils to develop emotional awareness, resilience, and self-regulation. He is often joined by our school dog, Pepsi, whose calm and affectionate nature brings comfort and reassurance, helping children to feel at ease and settled within the space.

Designed to be calm, welcoming, and purposeful, the Wellbeing Room offers a range of areas to support different needs. These include a calm corner with a blackout tent, a sensory area with an array of tools, a tranquil fish tank, and a quiet space for focused work. Together, these elements create an environment where children can pause, reflect, and reset before returning to learning.

The room is available to all pupils as needed, and children are encouraged to develop the confidence and maturity to recognise when a short break from the classroom will help them re-engage with learning. This approach promotes independence, emotional literacy, and a healthy understanding of personal wellbeing.
