Another fun and exciting week in Nursery!
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development, Communication, and Language
We continued discussing the importance of using our words, especially in challenging situations. We talked about Sports Day and read the social story, which has also been sent home for you to share with your child. The children had the opportunity to ask questions and express their feelings about the event.
Literacy
We reviewed previously taught sounds and introduced the sound ‘j’. The children discussed objects beginning with ‘j’ and shared items they had brought from home. Please use the reference video to ensure correct sound pronunciation: reference video
Mathematics
This week in Maths, we enjoyed singing number songs, including Five Little Currant Buns, Ten Green Bottles, and Five Little Ducks. We also used the abacus to practise counting to 100.
The children began learning about symmetry and explored how a pattern is the same on both sides. They enjoyed creating symmetrical pictures by folding paper, painting on one side, and pressing it together to reveal the matching pattern.
Understanding the World
This week, we continued learning about Change and Life Cycles. The children welcomed caterpillars into the classroom, learned about the butterfly life cycle, and enjoyed observing the changes throughout the week. They also listened to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
We also explored the children’s interest in volcanoes by creating and decorating a model volcano before making it erupt using baking soda.

Music
In Music, we have been reviewing all the songs that we have learnt this year and have now started preparing for the End of Year Show.
PE
In PE, Nursery prepared for sports day by practising different sporting events such as Egg and Spoon, Agility running, Bean Bag balancing and javelin throwing.
Ivrit
This week in Ivrit, we spent time with our friend Shoobi Doobi, who was very excited to go to the Yam ים (sea)! Before he could head off, he needed our help getting ready. Together, we dressed him for a fun day at the beach by putting on his Kova כובע (hat), Beged Yam בגד ים (swimsuit), Sandalim סנדלים (sandals), Hultza Ktzara חולצה קצרה (T-shirt), and Mishkafei Shemesh משקפי שמש (sunglasses). Once he was all dressed, he was ready for his summer adventure!
We also learned some new Ivrit vocabulary, including “Cham Li” חם לי (I am hot), which led to lots of great conversations about the warm summer weather.
The children had a wonderful time colouring the word Shemesh (שמש – sun) in Ivrit and decorating pictures of Glida גלידה (ice cream)—a perfect summer treat!
We have lots more fun summer (Kaitz) learning planned in the weeks ahead and I look forward to sharing it with you!
Jewish Studies
This week in Nursery Class:
- We learned all about Parashat Korach. Korach became jealous of Moshe and Aharon’s leadership and wanted to be the leader himself. Hashem showed that Aharon had been chosen as the Kohen Gadol when his staff miraculously blossomed overnight, while Korach was punished for challenging Hashem’s decision.
- The children each created a wonderfully colourful blossoming staff, inspired by Aharon’s staff. We enjoyed retelling the story with our friends and exploring bright pink flowers and shaving foam in the outdoor area. Some children also chose to make puppet masks of Aharon, Moshe and Korach to help bring the story to life. Well done, everyone!
- We celebrated Rosh Chodesh Tammuz by singing Hodu LaHashem Ki Tov from Hallel during tefillah, and began learning about The Three Weeks, which start on the 17th of Tammuz. This is a sad time in the Jewish calendar when we remember the destruction of the First and Second Batei Mikdash. During this time, we refrain from listening to music and holding celebrations. To help us remember the significance of this period, each child created a beautiful and meaningful Beit Hamikdash craft. We are so proud of all their thoughtful work.
This week’s Nursery Shabbat Kochavim (stars) were Alice and Daniel.

- Please send in an object beginning with the letter sound ‘v’ on Monday, 22nd June.
- Please refer to the email regarding Sports Day arrangements. Children should arrive at The Wilf Slack Sports Ground, East End Road, N3 2LE, promptly at 9:00 am. The school will reopen at 1:15 pm. Please ensure your child brings a sunhat and water bottle, and has all-day sunscreen applied before arrival.
