Jewish life at Kerem is warm, joyful and deeply embedded in the everyday experience of our pupils. As a Modern Orthodox school, we are committed to traditional Torah values while nurturing confident children who feel secure in their Jewish identity and proud of who they are.

We see parents as valued partners in their child’s Jewish journey. Inspired by the words of the Shema — “You shall teach them to your children and speak of them” — we believe that Jewish education is strongest when school and home work together. Through shared celebrations, communication and community involvement, we aim to support families in nurturing Jewish life beyond the classroom.

Our aim is simple and enduring: to inspire a lifelong love of Judaism, grounded in knowledge, enriched by experience, and lived with joy.

Tefilah

Each day at Kerem begins with Tefilah, creating a calm and reflective start to the morning. Age-appropriate and meaningful, Tefilah helps children develop familiarity with prayer, language and melody, while also encouraging gratitude, mindfulness and a sense of community.

Festivals

The Jewish calendar is celebrated with energy and enthusiasm at Kerem. Festivals are woven naturally into both lessons and wider school life. Jewish Studies and Ivrit are taught by specialist teachers and brought to life through music, art, storytelling, practical activities and shared celebration, helping children understand not only what we do, but why we do it.

Mitzvot

Learning about mitzvot, customs and values in this way fosters a strong sense of pride, ownership and enjoyment in Jewish life, creating lasting memories and a confident connection to Jewish tradition.

Parasha and Chumash

Weekly learning is enriched through the Parasha, which is explored in ways that are thoughtful, accessible and relevant to children’s lives. Stories, discussion, drama and creative activities help pupils connect Torah learning with values such as kindness, responsibility, courage and respect. As children progress through the school, they develop increasing fluency and confidence in Chumash, gaining both knowledge and enjoyment as they encounter texts in greater depth.

Our Connection with Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue

Situated within the synagogue premises, Kerem benefits from a uniquely immersive Jewish environment and close links with the local community. This setting reinforces a sense of belonging and continuity, helping pupils understand that Judaism is not confined to lessons, but is a vibrant, living part of everyday life.

Ivrit

At Kerem, Ivrit is taught throughout the school, starting in the early years. Our Ivrit curriculum focuses first and foremost on developing a love of the language and of Israel. Its aim is to teach conversational Ivrit by using the language in everyday situations, so that it can be used confidently beyond the classroom. Whether it is Israeli Breakfast Club, visits from the Israeli Theatre Company or producing their own Fashion Show in Ivrit, pupils have numerous opportunities to engage deeply with Israeli language and culture.
