11+ Preparation

Kerem pupils regularly secure scholarships and places at leading selective independent secondary schools, as well as progressing to a wide range of Jewish state and Independent schools. We take great care to support each child and family in finding the school that is the right fit — academically, socially and emotionally.

For pupils applying to selective independent schools, we offer a thoughtful and well-paced 11+ preparation programme that builds confidence gradually and avoids unnecessary pressure. Preparation is carefully integrated into the curriculum and tailored to individual needs, so pupils feel supported, motivated and well prepared.

Year 4: Building Skills and Confidence

Verbal Reasoning is introduced to familiarise pupils with different question styles and to help them develop effective strategies to answer different question types.
From the summer of Year 4 onwards, progress is shared with parents so families feel informed and involved.

Year 5: Focused Preparation

From the Spring Term of Year 5, support becomes more targeted:

Teaching takes place in smaller groups, allowing for greater individual attention
Non-Verbal Reasoning is introduced alongside continued development of exam skills and confidence
Groups are organised to reflect pupils’ current attainment and the specific exams they will be taking
Pupils not sitting selective exams continue to be appropriately challenged, without an undue focus on exam practice
Interview preparation is woven in through supportive sessions that help pupils communicate clearly, confidently and authentically

Optional 11+ Preparation Club

For families who wish to take advantage of additional support, an optional 11+ Preparation Club runs from January of Year 5, providing further practice in a positive and encouraging environment.

Supporting Families Through Secondary Transfer

We know that the secondary transfer process can feel complex, and we pride ourselves on working closely with our parents every step of the way.

All parents are invited to an information meeting explaining both state and independent application routes
Staff are always available to offer advice, answer questions and provide reassurance
Parents of pupils in Years 4 and 5 are invited to a Future Schools Fair. A wide range of independent selective schools attend, highlighting Kerem’s strong reputation among independent schools and giving families the opportunity to explore a range of options and speak directly with schools themselves.
In the Spring Term of Year 5, parents meet with senior staff to review progress, discuss potential schools and agree next steps tailored to their child
