Reception at Kerem Pre-Prep is more than a starting point; it is the continuation of a lifelong love of learning which, for many of our pupils, begins in our Little Grapes Nursery.
Reception
Strong Foundations
At Kerem Pre-Prep, our Reception class offers the perfect blend of nurture, challenge, and joyful learning. By cultivating their emotional wellbeing and curiosity about the world in a warm, inspiring environment, we ensure Kerem children are happy, confident learners who are socially and emotionally ready for the transition into Year 1.
Through a rich, play-based curriculum rooted in the EYFS, Kerem pupils build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills, while developing confidence, curiosity, and independence.
Our dedicated teachers tailor learning to each child’s needs and interests, with a careful balance of play, structured activities, routines, and adult-led teaching, ensuring they feel secure, motivated, and excited to come to school each day.
Academic Curriculum
We are guided by the National Curriculum framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), fostering personal, social, and physical development alongside early literacy and numeracy skills.
The Statutory Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is based around the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The three prime areas in the EYFS are:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social, and emotional development
The four specific areas of learning in the EYFS:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
By the end of Reception, most children will be using phonics to read and write simple sentences; they are developing early number skills such as counting, simple addition and subtraction, and recognising patterns and shapes. They celebrate all the Jewish festivals, singing songs in Ivrit and recognising and using Ivrit letters, words and brachot.
Freeflow: freedom to learn
Our free-flow approach, allowing children to move independently between indoor and outdoor environments, follow their interests and build confidence, curiosity and resilience supports rapid progress. Our pupils consistently make excellent progress, exceeding local and national benchmarks both at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage and as they grow and develop throughout the school.
Pastoral Care
Our pastoral approach is underpinned by the principle that emotional well-being is central to successful learning.
With a high teacher-to-child ratio and an individualised pastoral approach, we place happiness and well-being at the heart of our practice, ensuring every child feels truly known, supported, and valued.
Aligned with the EYFS Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED) framework, our teachers work in close collaboration with our dedicated Wellbeing Practitioner to nurture emotional resilience, social skills, and positive relationships.
Together, they provide tailored support, help children manage emotions, and guide them through transitions, creating a caring environment where every child can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
