Chesed

At Kerem, we are proud of the strong, caring community that surrounds our families. When a family or member of staff experiences a time of need — whether a birth, bereavement, sudden or ongoing illness, or another challenging circumstance — support is available through our Chesed Committee.

Families are invited to email the Committee to let us know how we can help. Depending on the situation, assistance may include kosher meals or grocery deliveries, school drop-offs or collections, or coordinating play-date rotas. Support is usually arranged for one to two weeks, though longer-term needs will be supported wherever possible.

Our aim is to centralise the kindness that already exists within our parent body and ensure that every family feels supported and included.

Volunteering

We warmly welcome parents who would like to be part of this network of care. If you are able to help occasionally — even once during the year — please email keremchesed@gmail.com so we can add you to our volunteer list.

Volunteers are notified when support is needed and can choose if, when and how they are able to help. There is complete flexibility, and every contribution makes a meaningful difference.

Meal Organisation

Meals are coordinated through www.takethemameal.com, where volunteers can sign up for a date and indicate what they will be providing. Any allergies or specific requirements will be clearly listed.

To ensure appropriate Kashrut standards are maintained, meals should be prepared in a kosher kitchen. For our purposes, this means:

  • Separate dishes, pots and utensils for meat and dairy
  • A dishwasher used exclusively for either meat or dairy
  • Meat and poultry sourced from a kosher butcher or pre-packaged under rabbinic supervision
  • No non-kosher fish or seafood
  • Packaged foods certified kosher or listed on the London Beth Din Kosher List
  • Ready-prepared kosher food may also be purchased.

Through Chesed, we aim to offer practical help while showing our children that kindness and community matter.

We recommend the following local kosher stores for groceries or ready-prepared food:
